Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 29, 2026 · 日本語版
Tokyo Hotel Map (“we”, “the site”) helps travellers find Tokyo hotels by train travel time. This policy explains what data is processed when you use the site. The short version: the site requires no account, sets no advertising cookies, and runs analytics only if you opt in via the consent banner — decline and nothing is sent to Google.
Data we process
- Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard server logs (IP address, browser user agent, requested pages) to deliver and secure the service. See Vercel's privacy policy.
- Map tiles. The map loads tiles directly from OpenFreeMap's servers, so your browser sends your IP address and the map area you view to them. OpenFreeMap runs without registration, API keys, or cookies; see openfreemap.org. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
- Search filters. Your destination, travel-time, size, and price selections are sent to our search API as anonymous query parameters to compute results; they are not stored and are not linked to you. If you set check-in/check-out dates, those dates and the guest count are forwarded to the Rakuten Travel API to fetch live prices — again without any identifier linking them to you.
- Google Analytics (only with your consent). If you accept the consent banner, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand which features help travellers (pages viewed, destinations searched, stay dates set, hotel cards opened, booking-site click-throughs — identified by hotel and station IDs only, never names, emails, or payment data). Google LLC (United States) processes this alongside your IP address and device information on our behalf; Google Signals and ads features are disabled. If you decline, the Google script never loads and nothing is sent. See Google's privacy policy.
Cookies and local storage
The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_*, set by Google Analytics) are created only after you click Accept on the consent banner. Whichever you choose, your choice itself is saved in your browser's local storage (key thm-consent) for 12 months so we don't ask again on every visit — that entry is strictly necessary and contains only “granted” or “denied”. The map's “kept hotels” shortlist (the ♥ button) is likewise stored only in your browser's local storage (key thm-kept: the hotel details you kept, up to 10), is never sent to us, and is cleared by removing the hotels or clearing site data. You can change your cookie choice anytime via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer or the map's filter panel; declining after a prior accept stops collection and removes the analytics cookies. Ads (e.g., Google AdSense), if ever introduced, will come with a full certified consent-management banner first.
Affiliate links
Links to partner booking sites (currently Rakuten Travel) include an identifier so the partner knows the visit came from us; it does not identify you personally. What a partner site collects once you are there is governed by that partner's own privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosure.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Since we don't maintain user accounts or databases of visitor data, most requests will concern our processors listed above — but you can always contact us and we will help. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time via “Cookie settings”, with immediate effect.
