Where to stay for the January Grand Sumo Tournament 2027

January 10–24, 2027 (Sun–Sun) · Ryogoku Kokugikan · 日本語版を見る

The Kokugikan is two minutes from Ryogoku Station, and the top division fights in the late afternoon, so a sumo day is a short train ride in the daytime and a walk back after six. The question is not how close to Ryogoku you can get — it is which hotels reach it in a few minutes and still put you near the rest of your trip. This page measures every hotel on the map in daytime train minutes to Ryogoku, walk to the station included.

The travel times below are typical timetable times in the daytime window — including the walk from each hotel to its nearest station, but not live delays. Prices are each hotel's typical nightly rate, refreshed in weekly batches; set your dates on the map for live prices and availability.

Good to know

Ryogoku sits on the JR Sobu line (Akihabara is two stops, Kinshicho one) and the Toei Oedo line, so hotels around Akihabara, Asakusabashi and Kinshicho are a few minutes away, and the Asakusa area is one easy change. A hotel a stop or two out is usually cheaper than one next to the hall and costs you five minutes.

The times on this page are typical daytime journeys and they end at Ryogoku Station, not at the Kokugikan gate. Arrive before the top division if you want to see the ring-entering ceremony; the crowd leaves all at once at six, so a short walk back beats a long one.

Book the room when you buy the tickets. Tickets go on sale December 5 and the New Year tournament is the most popular of the year; set your dates on the map to see live prices — rates shown without dates are not tournament-week rates.

How these times are calculated

Tokyo Hotel Map precomputes station-to-station travel times for 807 stations across the JR, Tokyo Metro, Toei, and waterfront networks from real timetable data, then adds each hotel's walking time to its nearest station. Times shown are typical daytime journeys — rush hour and late-night times can differ, and you can switch time windows on the map. Always allow a margin for transfers and delays.
